As accredited senior appraisers (ASA) of the American Society of Appraisers we subscribe to the ethics and outlines of the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP) as well as the discipline set forth by the American Society of Appraisers. In addition to 15 hours USPAP training, we have attended nearly 120 classroom hours specific to our discipline of Machinery and Technical Specialties (Machinery and Equipment). Prior to accreditation we must display our knowledge by presenting our work for peer review and attest to thousands of hours of appraisal experience. In order to maintain accreditation, a minimum of 20 continuing education credit hours are required yearly, including 7 hours of training on USPAP every other year (five year reaccreditation of 100 hours).
An accredited senior appraiser can assist the client in selecting the correct premise of value (POV) for his requirements, whether for financial or other reasons. As part of best practice, we visually inspect and inquire with the client as to age and condition of an asset. We are also bound to consider such aspects as cost (replacement or reproduction cost new), market (available comparable sales data), and income (the value of the asset based upon an income stream).
